It’s 6:30 a.m. and you’re waiting for a bathroom – again – hoping you won’t be late to work. Two bathrooms used to seem like enough for four people, but then your daughters became teenagers, you went back to work and now, suddenly, everyone needs the bathroom for long stretches of time, at the same time, every day.

You decide to eat breakfast before you shower, even though you hate doing that, but your husband’s work papers are taking up the entire kitchen table so you have to eat your cereal on the couch. In your early morning fumbling, you spill milk all over your pajamas. You would go throw them in the washer, but it’s in the basement, and it’s just too cold down there.

If only you had a home office, a third bathroom – even a half bath would do – and a first-floor laundry room, your life would be so much easier, you think.

Sometimes your home just doesn’t meet your needs anymore and you find yourself asking, should I move – or can I remodel and make my home functional again? In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the process of making this decision. (Eager to see how a home improvement project might add to your home’s value? See Will Your Home Remodel Pay Off?)
