If you want to bring some Black Swallowtail Butterflies inside so you can let your children enjoy the wonders of nature close up, plant some Rue or Parsley Plants in your garden.  I had some Rue that I cut to add to a flower bouquet late in the fall one year, only to find that there were catapillars eating the Rue plant after I had brought the flowers inside.  Before I could decide what to do with them, they started spinning cocoons-one catapillar had wandered into the powder room to spin.  So after reading that the survival rate in the wild in low, I decided to see if I could keep them over the winter inside.  I placed them in a butterfly tower in a cool room and waited till spring.  Then when it started to warm up in the spring, I took the cage outstide and put a rock in the bottom of it to keep it from blowing away.  Low and behold they came out of the cocoons so I cut a hole in the tower and let them go free!  What a wonderful sight to behold!

Just a warning with the Rue plant though-they have a milky sap like a milk weed that irritates some peoples skin.  I havn't heard of any adverse reactions to parsley though,  in fact I think it is high in vitamin A!  Enjoy!
